You may like the look of this mailbox. It is certainly capacious. But don't buy it for security. I was just looking at this product at a store today, and I was easily able to reach through the slot and retrieve the assembly instructions at the bottom of the box. If I can do that, so can a thief who wants my Netflix mail or a bank statement or anything else. To be fair, every "secure" mailbox except one that I looked at I could simply reach into and fetch things. This is placebo security. -- Don't buy unless you want an illusion of security
Recently had my house remodeled. I wanted weatherproof, safe and secure extra-large mailbox with capacity to accept many magazines and oversized envelope mail I recieve daily. Nice style and quality. Included necessary hardware along with quick and easy diagram for mounting instructions. Very durable and attractive addition to compliment brand new or older home exteriors, at an affordable price. Installation was completed in less than half an hour. I stepped back to admire the finished job and was quite satisfied with the results and my purchase. -- Fantastic! This mailbox will not stop anyone that is wanting to quickly get into it. When the keys to my mailbox were misplaced, I decided to try getting into the mailbox. I was shocked at how easily it could be opened without using any tools. If you give it a good tug, the door will open. Closing it without removing the lock would likely be a challenge though. What I hope is that it will at least cause a drive by snatcher to just move along. In case anyone has lost their keys, you can order a new lock mechanism with keys from the manufacturer via the The Solar Group. -- Expensive for the poor quality
Just bought a house and wanted a more secure mailbox. Got this and my complaints about it are that it doesn't come with long enough screws and no washers at all. That wasn't apparent when I purchased it. Also, the door although seemingly sturdy can be easily pried open. The door is not secure any other place but the immediate area of the lock so you can easily pull the door to either side and pry it open. I think perhaps if you are able to drill big enough holes to install 2 additional mailbox locks on either side of the original lock this would solve the problem. I am hoping that this mailbox will serve some purpose and possibly "deter" the average identity thief since my husband will not allow me to purchase a more expensive and possibly better mailbox. This mailbox is better than a non-locking one so that is why I gave it an average rating. -- Better than nothing
