I've been using these locks for about 3 years now and love them (I use the "121Q" model - same locks, but they come in a 4-pack for the same price). Since using these, I've picked up 2 additional 4-packs and have not had any issues with any of them. With that said, they're not for everything.
My reason for buying these were to "lock" a backpack or bag up - both for security (keeping others from opening it) and for.. well, security from the bag unzipping itself (which does happen on a loaded bag). One photo backpack, the Canon Deluxe Photo Backpack 200EG is known to do this regularly when filled up, and I'd imagine the last thing you'd want is all your high-end camera gear spilling to the floor (or into someone elses bag!)
Thats where these locks come in - they're priced great, come with a pair and have 2 keys.
The keys are coded to both locks (or in the case of the 121Q, all 4 locks) - a big plus in my book. The downside is that if you need more locks (from what I can tell) you can't buy them without buying another 2 or 4 pack, which means a different key (my 3 sets all use different keys -- it would be nice to buy another lock if you needed 5, and use just 1 key, but I do see the security risk with them).
These are small locks - about an inch high (including shackle) - I found this to be a plus as the shackle can easily fit into zipper holes, locking 2 zippers together to keep it from opening. These aren't the most secure thing - if someone wants to get past them, they easily can by breaking the zipper or snapping the lock, but it's not something that someone can just unlock - they'd need to fight with it. If thats all you need, this is your item. If you need something super-secure, you might want to look elsewhere. If you just want to keep people from easily opening something, this works great.
The shackle is very easy to open (with the key) and close - a big problem I noticed with these small locks are that other brands can be hard to open - I looked at a few and these were the best I found (they don't stick on you when trying to unlock them, or bounce open when trying to lock them). There may be others out there that work just as well or better, but of the 3 I tried, these were the best and have yet to fail me.
The keys and locks are stylish (as odd as it seems) and very low-profile (I much prefer the silver/black combo to the gold/white or white/red and white/blue - it blends right in on most bags).
With that said, I would like it if Master Lock made these in different colors (or had some way to differentiate them). When dealing with 12 locks (3 sets of 4) and 6 keys total, it's hard to tell which key unlocks which lock. You will end up marking them yourself with a paint-marker, a sticker or duct tape most likely.
Overall, the price is great (but seriously look into the 121Q model for the same price!), the lock is secure and it's easy to use. I highly recommend picking up a pair if you just need to lock up or secure something, and understand it's not some sort of superlock (you probably don't want to lock your bike up with these!) -- Great little locks! (also look into the 4-pack)
We have been using these locks for a couple of weeks now. They are out in the rain (we live in western Washington) but they seem like they will do fine and not rust like our other locks did (not weatherproof?). They are small but not flimsy by any means and I love that one key opens both locks. Overall, a great little lock for the money. -- Small, but sturdy
I hadn't realized how small they were, but they worked very sufficiently regardless for what I got them for. My only real beef with this particular item is that the hole for the key chain is very unforgiving so if you were to accidentally bend the key around, it will in fact damage the metal key chain loop some. If you get this and plan to keep it on a key chain ring, aim for something fairly thin! If the company is reading this, please considering increasing the hole size a bit more. -- What can I say? It's good!
These locks are small and apparently quite weatherproof too. Matching and keyed alike. I use them on my motorcycle trunk bag. Obviously this sort of thing only keeps the so called honest people honest as they say. Anyway, they do the trick. They arrived on time, packed well and in good condition at a good price via Amazon. -- Great little locks for the money.
Solid brass housing, well-constructed, good quality, free shipping, and a low price for two mini padlocks, that are keyed alike (four keys provided). Manufactured by an industry leader, black casing, great for travel or general use indoors. -- reasons to buy . . .
