I bought this "thing" to help me edge the 14' walls in my bedroom, with help of a extension pole. it worked AMAZINGLY!! I'm a perfectionist, so I took my time reading the directions and practicing on the walls to get the best technique. It was WELL worth my money and I use it for every room I paint now, it's a time saver, but it does take a few minutes to learn how to use it. -- So Surprised!!
I have been doing a TON of painting since I bought my house last year. This edger is a HUGE time saver and it does an excellent job. I have never been compelled to write a review for any product but this one. I didnt use one piece of the $8 edging tape I bought because this thing does exactly what it says it does. I got an entire bedroom edged in maybe 15 minutes with perfect lines and one-coat coverage (with a good paint like Home Depot's Behr Ultra Premium Plus paint). I spent more time getting up and down the ladder than I did on it edging. Every now and then I would have to wipe of some excess paint when I overloaded the pad but even if it is a little messy the lines are still somehow clean. One piece of advice is to make sure you are painting with the guard side next to the edge you are trying to keep clean and that you are making sure you are lifting the guards each time you load it with paint. It seems pretty basic but if you arent doing that you wont have perfect lines. I've tried one other cheap edger in the past and it was a mess. The guard is what makes this tool superior. Its worth every penny. Grab a few extra pads while you are at it...I promise you will use this tool again and again. -- AMAZING!
This is one of the best little tools I've gotten for remodeling our home. All the "experienced" guys told me to get a good brush, but I'm not experienced at this painting gig. I painted one closet wall/ceiling corner with a brush... disastrously ugly. This afternoon, I just finished painting three rooms with the Shur-Line. It was so much better using this. I don't hate painting anymore! I only give the product 4 stars because the paint pads break down a little too quickly on our knockdown texture wall. If you're painting any sort of texture, buy the extra paint pads, too. -- Best tool I bought for this remodel!
This works amazing -- for the first 10 feet or so... then it gets covered in paint and makes you wish you had used tape. It cuts into the painting you have done leaving patches with no paint that you have to go over and after about 40 feet of painting the pivot broke on two different models...
And don't even get me started on the pads! -- Not worth the money
There is a reason pro painters never use these things....they do not preform as well as a good brush. Think about it, if a painter could save and hour per room by using this tool, don't you think he would have a whole box full? These things are for people with no idea what they are doing and are satisfied with a mediocre paint job. You are probably going to paint a lot more rooms in your life time, so do yourself a favor, buy a really good chisel edged angled brush and make yourself learn how to cut in. It's not that hard and then you won't waste any more money on these cheap gimmicks. -- Ever seen a painter use one of these? Me neither.
