You are on the right track though. You can only use Pro Tools with Pro Tools hardware (HD and LE). The only exception is the recent introduction of Pro Tool M-powered where you can use PT with M-audio audio interfaces. 

The LE and M-powered softwares are in general the same (both LITE version of PT HD). Hope this helps.</description>
